     Sarah Ann Jetton
was the daughter of Isaac Jetton and
Susannah A. Davis and was born on December 25, 1846 in
Caldwell County Kentucky. As a child, Sarah moved with her
parents from Kentucky to Texas, to Arkansas and perhaps
other places before settling in Dallas County Missouri. She
married Joseph Robins Rains in Dallas County on July 2,
1868. Joseph was born on March 6, 1850 in Missouri and
died on June 21, 1918 in Bolivar, Polk County Missouri at his
     daughter Mary's home.

Sarah was about 22 years old when she married Joseph Rains
and according to entries in her bible she was a strong
independent minded lady who apparently intended to remain
single, or perhaps had given up on finding someone worthy of
marriage. Sarah poetically wrote in her bible:

"Single is my life and always was my joy. Thank God I am
no mans wife nor no man cant controle me"

"Single I am and single I'll remain. A Lazy man I wont
     maintain".

How old she was when she wrote those is not known but in any event, my gg-grandfather was obviously able to change her mind. Joseph and Sarah spent most of their lives in Buffalo, Dallas County Missouri but moved to Neosho Falls, Woodson County Kansas prior to 1908 where Sarah died on 7 May, 1910.

Joseph Robins Rains was the son of Stephen Rains and Abigail
Gregg, daughter of Lewis Gregg and Susannah Cozad. He was
born in Buffalo, Dallas County Missouri on March 6, 1850 and
died on June 21, 1918 in Bolivar, Polk County Missouri.

Joseph's father Stephen Rains was born in Ohio and was the son
of Isaac Rains and Sarah Dixon. Isaac was born in Randolph
County North Carolina and was the son of Lawrence Rains, born
on December 13, 1752 probably in Caroline County Virginia, and
Anna McManus.

Millie was living with her parents Joseph and Sarah Rains during the 1910 Kansas census, however, and was listed as a widow. The 1920 Kansas census lists her as the wife of Delbert Cox so she apparently remarried. She died on October 24, 1921.

James "Bob" and Nellie lived mostly in Kansas City Kansas where Bob worked for the P & O Plow company, farmed and in a 1925 census was listed as a contractor. Bob and Nellie did not have any children.
